I’m not even sure what this does. Is it for guiding the wheel back on neatly?

I’m also curious.

I did not realize putting wheels on was that difficult.

I may look into those when I start changing tires on my VW. Maybe not the gold flavor.

its for when you have lug bolts instead of lug nuts. if you take out the first lug bolt and put this is, it keeps the brake rotor from rotating and it also holds the wheel up for you when you try to put it back on. otherwise, your trying to balance the wheel on the lip in the hub and align the wheel and the rotor and the lug hole.

Yeah, it makes changing wheels that use bolts instead of nuts and studs. I have to admit, it would be a nice tool to have.

i had a plastic one that came with the car. buy a metal one

it can be a bit of a pain when you are working with lug bolts instead of lug nuts. As soon as you put the wheel on the rotor turns and now nothing is lined up.

Ah lug bolts. Makes sense now. I have zero experience with those.

yea imagine zipping off the lug nuts on your car for the first time and the whole fucking thing comes out. I thought I had done something very bad.

Lolz. I would have done the same thing.

Volvos of a certain age also have this arrangement.

I almost dropped my Volvo on the rotor once because I did this and had no idea it was even a thing.

Leave it to ze Germans to make a tire rotation more complicated.

My ‘98 Volvo V70 AWD and both of my mother’s Audis (‘89 100Q and ‘99 S4) came with nice rubber-coated aluminum hanger studs (to avoid scratching your fancy-schmancy alloy wheels)

I love the first two items in the “Customers also bought” section. First we’ve got the $10 hockey puck with a pre-cut slot. Then we’ve got the $2 hockey puck that you need to cut your own slot into.
